Facial Skin Care Tips

Caring for your skin and caring for your body go hand in hand. Your skin is like a mirror that reflects all your habits. If you eat healthy and treat your body well, the result will be healthier more supple skin. However, if you eat foods that are greasy and bad for you, it will show through your skin in the form of pimples and blemishes. Because your skin releases toxins from your body many of the things you eat indirectly affect your skin.

One of the most important facial skin care tips is to maintain a healthy eating habit. By creating and sticking to a healthy diet, you will not only feel the benefits of it, but you will also see the benefits through a more lean body and most importantly you will notice it by the texture and complexion of your skin. Drinking a lot of water and eating healthy are important facial skin care tips that will not result in immediate improvement, but it will also be noticed as the years pass.

Aside from a good diet, cleansing and moisturizing are important facial skin care tips. Eating healthy helps maintain the health and look of your skin from the inside out, but that alone will not necessarily cure any skin problems that you may have. Cleansing daily helps to clear away any environmental damage that your skin may be suffering from, such as dirt or toxins. Moisturizing will also help your skin as it works as a barrier locking in moisture and protecting your skin. Exfoliating and weekly facials are more facial skin care tips that are useful. By exfoliating you are removing any unwanted dead skin cells allowing a cleaner, smoother layer of skin to appear. Facials can also be helpful in the maintenance of your skin, as various facials achieve various outcomes. Most facials are relaxing and soothing for the skin, where other facials open up the pores and allows the skin to breathe. If you suffer from oily skin then a facial that will tighten your pores may be an ideal product.

There are many products out there and several facial skin care tips that can be found through the internet and also in health magazines. But the constant repetitive tips are those that tell you to eat healthy, exercise, and cleanse daily. By following these facial skin care tips you will be successful and over a short period of time you will see results with a more clear healthy complexion. You can also obtain tips from your dermatologist who will be able to advise you on the right kind of skin care for your skin type.

Basic Tips for Proper Contact Lens Care

Contact lenses have been proven to be a safe and efficient means of vision correction, but even still, it is crucial that contact lens wearers follow the instructions of their eye care practitioner in order to optimize their eye health. Properly caring for and maintaining contact lenses is a key component of eye care and the prevention of eye infections and other problems.

Multipurpose solutions simplify caring for contact lenses by combining three steps – cleaning, rinsing, and disinfecting. Some people may find it preferable to further clean their lenses by rubbing them. To do this, apply three drops of multipurpose solution to the lens and rub from the center outward, but not in a circular motion. This action wipes away any dirt or debris from the lens surface. After rubbing the lens, rinse the lens with more solution and return it to its case and fill the case with fresh solution.

Be sure not to top off solution; use fresh solution each time you clean and disinfect your lenses. Also, don’t touch the tip of the solution bottle to your hands or the lens, and tightly recap the bottle after each use.

Don’t wear contact lenses when swimming in a pool or hot tub. Some scientists have found that this contact with water can allow bacteria to gain access to the contact lenses and the eyes.

The most important aspect of contact lens maintenance is hand washing. One’s hands come into contact with numerous germs every day; it is therefore essential that wearers thoroughly wash their hands before handling their lenses. If hands are not properly washed before handling contact lenses, wearers run the risk of contaminating their lenses and their eyes. Cream soaps are less desirable, as they tend to leave a film on the hands, which can then be transferred to the lenses, causing temporary decreased visual comfort.

It is also very important that lenses be regularly disinfected with the appropriate solution as recommended by your eye care practitioner. Each time that lenses are cleaned, fresh solution should be used. Follow the solution instructions carefully, as some brands require different steps.

To ensure that makeup products such as mascara or cover up do not get stuck on the surface of a contact lens, it is important to insert contacts before applying makeup. Also, use oil-free moisturizers and don’t apply hand lotions or creams before handling lenses in order to minimize the risk of oily deposits on the lens surface.

Contact lenses should be properly stored in a case that is regularly cleaned. Storage cases should be cleaned with the recommended disinfectant solution, not tap water, in order to kill any microorganisms that could be on your lenses. This should prevent the risk of eye infection. Leave the cover off the case and allow it to dry before putting lenses back in it.

Steer clear of putting contact lenses in your mouth or using saliva to moisten lenses. Saliva contains a robust bacteria flora, which is foreign to your eyes and could lead to a variety of eye infections.

Visit your eye care practitioner regularly and follow a replacement contact lens schedule that you and your practitioner agree upon.

Additional information regarding contact lenses and eye care is available from Contact Lens King, http://www.contactlensking.com.

Are you Playing Beautiful Music Throughout Your Life?

The guitar is an excellent metaphor for our lives. The strings represent the different facets and aspects of our lives in which we express ourselves, the plucking and strumming represents the action we take in the world and the music represents the results we produce in our lives.

I don’t care how great of a guitarist you are, if your strings are not in tune, you will never play beautiful music in your life or reach your full potential!

Where are you out of tune in your life?

Most of us go through life primarily playing the work string. We focus all of our efforts, time and energy thinking that this is what will make us successful. So, we work long and hard thinking that our efforts will provide us with the things we need to live a successful life.

Nothing could be further than the truth!

The truth is that this is a recipe for health breakdown, failed relationships and discontentment.

In order to play beautiful music throughout our lives and truly live a prosperous, successful and fulfilling life, we must play all of the strings!

Most of us have been taught that massive action and hard work is what will make us successful or earn us some type of award in life. How many times have you thought, “look at me, look how hard I am working!”

That is an old model and is actually becoming more and more ineffective. I can’t tell you how many business people I know that have failed health, broken marriages and alienated children.

There must be a solution!

And there is.

To be truly successful, you must play all of the strings in your life.

Are you playing the physical health string? Do you take time to exercise and eat nutritious foods? Do you take time to pamper yourself and rest? You would be surprised at how many people neglect this aspect of their lives to later regret their decision.

Take quality time to be with the ones you love most. The relationship string is one of the most powerful strings that you can play in your life! Nurture your relationships and you will be amazed at the benefits and also how it positively affects your energy.

We all have different facts and aspect of our lives. When we take time to play the ones that mean the most of to us we will find that we will have an increase in health, vitality and success in all aspects of our lives.

We will also find that we will be able to create our desired results easier and with less effort on our part. After all, would you rather have to labor long and hard to achieve your goals or have them show up with ease?

The key to truly living a successful, fulfilling and passion filled life is to play all of the strings in our lives. When we do we will find that we truly can play beautiful music throughout every aspect of our lives!

5 Tips for Healthy Living

Feel like you don’t have as much energy as you used to? Stressed out about things that happen both at work and in your personal life? Want to lose the five extra pounds that have taken up residence on your hips? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may need a lesson in healthy living.

The average person spends two thirds of their life either at work, working at home or thinking about work. The majority of the remaining time is spent sleeping. So what can you do in your waking hours to make sure you’re living the healthiest lifestyle possible? We have the answers:

1. Eliminate Stress.

Eliminating undue stress can be one of the hardest things to accomplish in your daily routine. On the other hand, it also has the biggest impact on your life. Ever heard the saying ‘don’t sweat the small stuff’? It’s time to put those words into action. And if you still can’t beat the blues, try lighting some candles and taking a bath, planning a day at the health spa, working out or reading a book. These are all known to be effective measures in relieving stress.

2. Quit Smoking.

If you’ve taken up the not-so-flattering (not to mention, unhealthy) habit of smoking, we strongly urge you to try quitting. And while we realize that doing so may up your stress levels for a short period of time, the long term effects on your health will be worth it in the end.

3. Eat Healthy.

Maintaining a healthy, balanced diet will work wonders for your health and will improve your overall energy. Eating green vegetables, fruit and the appropriate portions of meat and dairy combined with drinking lots of water and milk (to strengthen bones) will not only help you lose those extra pounds but will make you feel like a million bucks as well.

4. Exercise.

Working out on a consistent basis will also make you look and feel better. Exercising (whether it’s at a gym or in your home) will increase energy, relieve stress and leave you looking damn good. Who’s going to say no to that?

5. Stay Informed.

Health education is a great way to learn about new ways to stay healthy. Watching health channels on television (preferably while running on a treadmill) or reading a health magazine (you know, to relieve some stress) will help make sure you know what’s going on in the industry. Now that you know the plan, it’s time to put it in action. Good luck – and stay healthy!

Healthy Tips : Teeth Whitening - The Facts

Teeth whitening can be a great way to improve the look of your smile.

Nearly anyone that wants to brighten their teeth or smile can benefit from teeth whitening products. Some reasons you may want to get your teeth whitened may be due to your age, staining, or smoking. These factors all make you an excellent candidate for teeth whitening. Studies indicate that the teeth whitening process is effective in more than 80% of patients. Teeth whitening is now becoming more popular than ever, and research to better the teeth whitening system follows close behind.

Teeth whitening is a non-permanent procedure that works by removing harmful organic materials in the tooth enamel. The bleaching compound, which is a peroxide derivative, works by dissolving the organic materials in the enamel. For this reason, teeth whitening is more effective if there is an ample supply of enamel.

Today, there are 2 basic types of teeth whitening procedures: those done at the home via whitening kits, and those at a dentist's office by specialists.

Teeth Whitening Home Kits

Teeth whitening kits provide an affordable alternative to professional teeth whitening. Generally, the kits contain a brand-name whitening gel that is applied in a provided mouthpiece. The mouthpiece is then fit over the teeth and left on for various amounts of time. The cost of these kits can vary greatly, as a quality one can be several hundred dollars, while a cheaper kit will only cost you around 30 dollars. Obviously a quality kit will be more effective due to the better ingredients used in the gels.

To be sure you get a quality kit, look for the ADA seal of approval on the box (American Dental Association). Following the manufacturer's directions in the box is very important when using a home kit. Also, be sure to consult with a dentist if you plan to use a whitening kit for long periods of time. The bleaching compounds can cause severe teeth sensitivity that can have long term effects.

Professional Teeth Whitening

A professional teeth whitening treatment is the more expensive of the 2 options, however it is the safest and is generally more effective. A dental specialist will first determine if you are a good candidate for teeth whitening, then decide which type of whitening system would best fit your situation. Once determined as a candidate, the dental specialist will remove any general debris and plaque in the teeth that may hamper the whitening process. If you have cavities or gum disease, this will need to be taken care of prior to treatment.

Generally, the professional method is the preferred choice of most, as positive results are more common. Be sure to consult with your dentist to see if you are a candidate for teeth whitening, as it is instant and generally hassle free.

Are There Disadvantages or Limitations to Teeth Whitening?

As with any cosmetic treatments, there are bound to be a few side effects that can occur. Sore gums, sore teeth, and hyper-sensitivity can be caused by the whitening bleach. Also, don't expect your bridges, crowns, or fillings to brighten. The teeth whitening material is only effective for tooth enamel. Therefore, it is very important that you consult with a dentist before trying a whitening product, especially home kits.

You may also find yourself disappointed with the results. Everyone is different; therefore no procedure will have the same results. If you are unsatisfied with your teeth after a whitening procedure, you should consult with your dentist if further treatments will help or not.

Because teeth whitening has become so popular and effective, research continues to improve all teeth whitening systems.

Healthy Tips : Stress and Herbs; the alternative treatment

Today with the unstable economy and super high levels of debt, stress is increasing at an alarming rate. For the purpose of this article I will be concentrating on negative stress. Meaning: When a person finds oneself in a stress situation, the body reacts with a "fight-or-flight" response, releasing adrenaline and the stress hormone cortisol. This results is a fast reaction in an emergency (positive reaction), but if this condition persists for too long, these chemicals become harmful to the system and wreak physical havoc to the health (negative reaction) - everything from a compromised immune system, to heart problems, depression, concentration problems to insomnia could result.

Causes of stress

The causes of stress are highly individual. Your personality, ability to solve and defuse problems, support systems etc. will determine the stressfulness of a situation.

Debt is one of today’s most prevalent causes for stress, also factors like: death, major health problems, divorce, loss of job etc. contribute to chronic stress.

Effects of Stress

When stress is persistent, the body experiences stress plus the toxic effect of continued high stress hormones. Some irreversible brain and organ damage could be caused by these substances. Symptoms of chronic stress are:

• Chronic head ache (migraines, lower back pain, stiffness)

• Mood swings (depression, short temper, irritability, impatience, overreacting to problems)

• Nervous habits (e.g. nail biting, pacing)

• Anxiety (negative attitude, anxious or racing thoughts, fearfulness)

• Substance abuse (alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs, overdoing activities e.g. exercising, shopping)

• Memory disturbances (inability to concentrate, indecisiveness, poor judgement, difficulty studying)

• Depression (general unhappiness, feeling overwhelmed, sense of loneliness, procrastination)

• Agitation (restlessness, feeling tense, edgy)

• Behavioural problems (isolating oneself from others)

• Increased blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol

• Weight loss (or gain, Thymus gland malfunctioning, blood sugar fluctuations)

• Allergies (e.g. asthma)

• Digestive tract problems (diarrhoea, constipation, nausea, irritable bowl)

• Decreased sexual drive (decreased levels of testosterone)

• Sleeping disorders (sleeping too much or too little, teeth grinding, jaw clenching)

• Skin breakouts (hives, eczema)

• Frequent colds

If you’re experiencing any of these warning symptoms, it’s important to see a doctor for a full evaluation. Once your doctor has determined whether or not your symptoms are stress-related, consider Herbs and Vitamin B as an alternative aid to stress relief.

Herbal stress treatment:

Herbs are used in stress management therapy with little or no side effects.

Please note: In the case of pregnancy always consult your doctor before using any medication, even herbs.

Herbs can be taken in the following ways. Prepared in tablet or liquid form, commercial herbal teas from health shops and Supermarkets or freshly made into an infusion (tea).

I must add here that it is important to take Vitamin B complex as part of stress treatment, as it combines with Herbs (folic acid) to reduce stress. The following different herbs have medicinal values in the treatment of stress.

Blue Skullcap (S lateriflora) and Common Skullcap (S. galericulata) are powerful medicinal herbs, they are used as alternative medicine to antispasmodics, often in combination with other herbs, as a mood stabilizer during a period of high stress. Scientific studies are proving this to be a versatile plant in many areas for mental disorders. Simple Streches to Keep Common Headaches at Bay

The first step in preventing or treating a headache is to identify the cause. The most common headache tend to fall into four major categories: cluster headache, tension headache, migraine and chronic daily headache.

Cluster Headache

Sometimes known as ‘the demon of headaches’, cluster headache strikes with little warning, often waking up the sufferer in the middle of the night. The pain usually affects just one side of the face, centering on the eye. It typically lasts for between 15 minutes and three hours, and may return up to ten times a day for six to ten weeks (the cluster period) before disappearing for months or years.

The Cause Of Cluster Headache

No one is sure of the cause, but it is thought that some sort of irritation to the facial nerves may be to blame. Cluster headaches are more common in men, especially those who smoke or drink.

Tension Headache

Tension headache is the most common type of headache, and is characterized by a dull, steady pain on both sides of the head. The sufferer often feels as if a tight band, or heavy weight were pressing down on them.

The Cause Of Tension Headache

This headache is usually a direct result of stress, which causes the muscles of the neck and scalp to knot up. It can also be brought on by bad posture, sitting in a draught, bright lights, too much noise, or sitting or working in an awkward position.

Migraine

Migraine can be divided into two main categories. Classic migraines are usually preceded by an ‘aura’, a visual disturbance such as flashing lights, zig zag patterns and general blurring. With common migraine, which affects about 65% of sufferers, there is little or no warning. The pain develops slowly into a throbbing ache, often aggravated by movement or noise. Nausea and vomiting are common with both types.

The Cause Of Migraine

Migraine are believed to be the result of changes in the neurotransmitters and blood vessels in the brain. What cause these changes is unknown. Triggers include stress, foods such as cheese, alcohol and chocolate, lack of food or irregular meals, fatigue and hormonal factors such as periods. Menstrual migraines which affects about 10% of female migraine sufferers, are thought to relate to the drop is estrogen at this time of the month.

Chronic Daily Headache

To be termed a chronic headache, the pain has to occur on more than 15 days every month.

The Cause Of Chronic Daily Headache

Neck or head injury such as whiplash or overuse of painkillers. With sufferers who take painkillers on a daily basis, a vicious circle can develop. As the painkillers wear off, there is a rebound headache, so the sufferer takes more painkillers and the painkillers start to fuel the headache.

Exercise To Keep Headaches At Bay

These simple to follow exercises can help strengthen the neck area, and relieve tension, one of the most common causes of headaches.

The Face Clock

  1. Lie on your back, bend on your knees and place your feet flat on the floor. Place a rolled up towel under your neck for support.
  2. Now imagine you are facing a clock. Slowly trace the outline of its shape with the tip of your nose, clockwise then anticlockwise. Repeat 3 times in each direction.

Neck Roll

  1. Now turn your head slowly from side to side, going just as far as is comfortable, and keeping your chin level.
  2. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat 3 times to each side.

Neck Stretch

  1. Sit in a straight backed chair. Slightly lower your chin and tilt your head to the left, with your chin down and towards the right.
  2. With your left hand, gently pull your head to the left, but not to the point of pain. Hold for 30 seconds. Repeat 3 times on each side.

Shoulder Squeeze

  1. Lift your arms until they are parallel with the floor. Bend your elbows, keeping them at shoulder height, so your forearms are vertical.
  2. Keeping your back straight, push your arms back and squeeze your shoulder blades together. Hold for 30 seconds. Repeat 3 times.

Flexing The Neck

  1. Put your left arm behind you and rest your forearm against your lower back for support.
  2. Gently let your chin drop towards your chest until you feel a slightly stretch in the back of the neck. Hold for 30 seconds. Repeat 3 times. To increase the stretch, place the other hand over the back of the head.

For best results, hold each stretch for about 30 seconds. Don’t force any movements or overstretch. Stop immediately if you feel any pain or discomfort.
